While trying to figure out possible probs with carb I noticed that the EGR is not hooked up and can't seem to find a connection for it. The engine is a transplant engine that was done somewhere along the cars existence. According to several part numbers, it's an 84 302. The base plate (spacer) between the intake and carb has a flange on the back of it that has been blocked off. When I removed the carb, I noticed a small chamber (passenger side of intake) beside the carb bore that was gunked with carbon build up. Long story short, broke the gasket and put a reg carb base gasket on now it sounds like a leak (almost like an exhaust leak) around that small chamber. Can I just get a new spacer and a gasket that will completely cover this small chamber and eliminate the flange on the rear, or will this cause add'l probs. Suggestions?

Tried a search but everything seem to be for EFI

Car is an 86 (previous 4 cyl)

Thanks

Sounds like your gasket isn't completely covering the egr port, and you're getting a huge vaccum leak as a result. You can get an ERG valve and install it on the cast iron spacer that goes beneath the carb, or you can invest in a non-erg intake manifold. If you have to pass emissions, I'd recommend hooking the EGR valve up like it should be. If not, check out the classifieds or ebaymotors and get a different manifold.
