on ebay i see egr a eliminater piece. it is supposed to trick the computer into thinking the egr is hooked up. does anyone have this on a mostly stock mass air equipped mustang.
i'd like to not buy a 70mm egr spacer and just get rid of it instead.
are you talking about the little piece that you plug into your wiring harness if you are i got one on my car i just left the egr in and hooked the coolant lines together no codes runs good just make sure the motor is cold if you want to take the egr out you can by a plate to cover the holes my friend has one and his car runs great
Also, after you install the resistor and block off the EGR ports at the heads you will need to slap the car on a dyno and do a custom tune to adjust your part throttle fuel curves otherwise your car will run lean and you will expeirence detonation and potentially damage your motor.
Oh yeah, that;s the part most people forget to do.
The EGR pumps inert gas into the engine at part throttle in order to increase fuel economy a little. At idle and WOT the EGR does not function. Now when you trick the computer into thinking the EGR is functional and not working and then disable it, you need to do something about the computer since it still pulls a little fuel when certain criteria are met and it beleives it has a working EGR. Your air/fuel will run slightly lean.
That's why i always say it isn't worth the effort and to leave the EGR alone.
Now if you redo your engine and plan on getting a custom tune, delete away. But if your mods include basic bolt ons and such, leave the thing 100% functional and focus on REAL performance mods.
just saying my car runs fine and i have no detonation with 14* timing i put on because my egr was bad it cured my problem i did it because its cheaper than a new egr. if it runs lean pull the vaccum line off the fuel pressure regulator cap the vaccum line you wll have 42lbs of fuel pressure and there is your dyno custom tune lol
i got the 73mm mass air meter, 24# injecters, 70mm throttle body, heads, cam intake, yada yada. i was just being cheap because i didn't want to by the 70mm egr spacer for $50. if buying it avoids a $500 custom tune than it looks like i'll be getting it. thanks guys.

You are still going to need a custom tune either way to properly eliminate it. The chip just tells the computer the EGR is working properly when it's not. You still need to deal with tuning the air/fuel curves.
If you want to avoid the $500 tune, then leave the EGR alone. You either need to do it right (chip, block off EGR ports in heads, custom tune) or not do it at all
And yes i am aware some guys just delete it and call it a day.
Basically those plug-in "EGR delete" kits do nothing but keep your PCM from triggering a check engine light....but it doesn't actually delete the EGR from the PCMs functions. A tune can bypass the EGR tables all together.
