crescent wrench worked great for me! you dont really run the risk of stripping it because of its size.
I'm trying to cap the EGR fitting, not remove the tube.
I've eliminated the EGR system and need to cap off the exhaust manifold. I no longer have the stock tube either, so cutting and welding the tube shut won't work.

Might be safer to cap the fitting in the manifold instead of trying to remove it. Not sure what size it is but that would be a flare cap nut like this. http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/2P173

That's exactly what i was thinking. Wasn't sure about the size though. Had heard everything from 5/8" - 7/8" and 22mm. Didn't want to start buying random caps when i don't even have the headers with me to test out.
I ended up finding an old egr tube that i'm just going to cut and weld shut.
Hopefully someone finds an answer to this though.

if you found the old EGR tube, take it to lowes and find out the thread size.... i would use cast iron gas pipe fittings, no brass or copper...

we sell the EGR bung caps, wth or wthout the EGR delets kits and you coulda' had one in the mail to you by now and been done wth-it

Just found this thread. I am looking for a cap as well. I can tell you that the thread is 16 Threads Per Inch (TPI). This corresponds with 3/4-16 parker 37 degree flare fitting cap part number 8FNTX-S ... but don't go buy it because its way to small. Anyone else have any info on the thread? I know for a fact that it is straght thread not NPT and is or very close to 16 TPI.

i've bought 2 from lowes for about $4.they are a brass cap with a dome top. cant remember the size or part #
