EGR help

ok so ive completely removed all my smog stuff and what not but i want to get rid of the egr and all the ugly pipes.i have the little conector that goes where the egr plug went.i want to know if i can remove the egr plate and just have a throttle body. is anything like that possible?

Are you shure your not talking about the IAC? And you will want that for idle quality.

Why again are you removing all of this stuff????

i took out the smog pump because im running an h w/o cats, and just a little more power.also the egr was throwing a light so i bought the thing that fools it.but i dont want the egr on there ne more and i was just wondering if i could take the plate out instead of making a block.because its shorter run for the air?lol

It's called the EGR eliminator plate and allows you to take the EGR completely off. It's not just a plate to block off the hole, it eliminates it completely. It comes with shorter bolts and gaskets so it's a direct bolt on. You might have to get creative about the air inlet tube though because the plate is about 1/2 inch thick. I had to get some silicone hoses and extend it off the TB but I got it in red to match the wires, distributor and battery top. This plate can also allow use of tall valve covers too. Both Accufab and Steeda are the ones who make it so any aftermarket supplier who carries their parts should have it.

thanks man im lookin into it right now.the whole egr system is just tacky looking, and i dont even know why they invented the stupid thing..lol

yeah we do. im in lynnwood which is about 15 miles north of seattle.we have pretty high standards in our county, but if you fail, you can pay 150 for a waiver and then they just give you tabs.lol

Wish they did that here. If you're late on the inspection with a 1996 or newer car, you get a ticket/fine in the mail. By the time you're through, you've paid almost $250 for the damn thing. My brother had this happen last year and he wasn't even driving the car, it had a broken tranny case. In other words, he wasn't safe from the DMV in his own house!

Hey im building my engine right now that i bought all disassembled (bad move) anywho i got BBK shorty headers for it and an off road H pipe is this going to effect my smog pump im not sure if it attaches to the headers like GM or not

its a 88 5.0

The EGR doesn't rob any power. I don't understand where that idea came from. At idle and WOT the EGR system is off and not doing anything to the engine. The EGR only works during part throttle cruising by pumping inert gases into the engine.

The problem with the resistor that fools the EGR is that it tricks the EEC into thinking the EGR is working properly when it isn't. As a result, at part throttle the computer leans out the mixture to compensate for the inert gases in the system. Without the EGR working, normal air is replacing the inert air and the engine will run slightly lean.

This isn't a prob at WOT, but you don't drive around at WOT all the time, so when you are just out cruising around, you would be running slightly lean which may cause probs.

The RIGHT way to remove the EGR requires burning a custom chip to modify the fuel curves at part throttle. If you aren't willing to go this far then you might as well leave the EGR functional because you are actually hurting performance rather than helping it

ABsolutely right. This is the best advice you have gotten so far.

Learn what the smog equipment does before you go messing with it. You could end up making your car run slower.

Smart guys go faster, so here's a book that will get you started with how the Ford electronic engine control or "computer" works.
