Back again with another q, '87 LX Vert w/ 2.3 4-cyl & A4LD auto trans, my EGR system seems to be shot.

I don't see a Check Engine light anywhere in the car, where is it? Mine must be burned out, I checked it at AutoZone, pulled two codes, 83 and 84..

Anyways.. I'm getting really crappy mileage, and although the car wants to stall out when it's cold, and it's hard to start, it does run well when it warms up. It just gets really crappy mileage. I did 210.8 miles on one tank, that being a 15.4g tank. (13.68 mpg)

The codes seem to be putting the blame on the main EGR control solenoid, I looked at it and its connections, nothing visually amiss, is there any way to test the solenoid?

If not - Anything else I should check/replace, such as the EGR valve itself?

Thanks...

The EGR on our cars all nothing but a pain. The hole they have to actually let the gas into the intake is so small it barely effects anything. Even fully functioning, it only robs performance.

I just passed Ontario emmisions yesterday with no EGR and I had the best scores the shop had seen in 2 months on any car, new or used.

I suggest pulling the vacum line and plugging it, pulling the harness and then if you have access to a good code box, delete the code thats popping up.
