In Gone in 60 Seconds , when Cage is shifting gears , the shifter seems to have a "ratchet" type look / sound to it. Does anybody know what type shifter that is, or is it just an effect. Somebody many moons ago put a short throw race shifter on my 67 and I wanted to get rid of it. Anybody ? Anybody ? Bueller ? Buelllller ?

You probably already know this, but the actual stunt cars they used for most of the driving sequences were all automatics. I don't know if they used a ratchet shifter, but that would be a good guess IMHO. As for the stick versions they show NC driving, its safe to assume they dubbed all those scenes with audio, so it probably is just an effect.

Thanks Buddha, I kind of thought maybe the sound was an effect , but wasnt entirely sure . The guy that owned my car before me put in a Mr Gasket (I think) short throw thing, and its headed for file 13... Mine was used exactly for what it was intended. Im fortunate to still have the original engine. Even the rear frame rails had stress cracks from torque . All thats replaced now though. The shifter is the last of the quarter mile crap put on it. She'll now be babied , and once in a while opened up to keep the engine clean .Thanks for the input. Hoppy
