Agreed. When my OEM fan clutch failed, it was the "747" type of failure! 
I went with a Discount Auto Parts replacement, which also sounded like the totally locked up stocker.
Only an OEM fan clutch took care of the problem.
I have since gone the electric fan route, currently running a 3.8 Taurus electric.
