I have a 67 FB that will kill the battery if left hooked up for a couple of days. The horn contact in the steering column was sticking so I replaced the turn signal switch. I just disconnected the ground on the battery and put my meter between the negative cable and and the negative post on the battery and I have 12.6 volts. I believe this to mean that something is powered that shouldn't be. If I run the car without finding what is draining my battery how likely could it cause a fire? Any advice where to start looking...thx..Mike

start pulling fuses untill you get no reading on the volt meter, and that will be one of the circuits, with luck the only circuit, that has the problem causing the battery drain. when you track down and repair the problem, then start adding back fuses each time checking to see if you get a reading, as you may have more than one problem. and fire is a possibility if you dont repair the problem, though depending on the circuit, it is a remote possibility. mostly you will just have the battery drain away.

With a stock setup you might not read anything on the meter, but any aftermarket items such as an alarm or radio will read the battery voltage. What you need is a test light that draws about a half amp. Pull the fuses 'til the light goes out. That should ID the guilty circuit.
