emergency brake adjustment?

This probably should have been adressed about 8 years ago. The hand brake has never held perfectly, but has continued to get weaker and weaker. It is at the point now where I have to park the car in gear pretty much everywhere. Never really understood (or tried to) how these work, but seems like it should be pretty simple. Any way you can "tighten" the e-brake? There is definitely a connection, you can tell it is trying to hold the car, but just needs some help. Car still has drum brakes if it makes any difference...

Did the e-brake used to hold and now you have to pull higher on the lever to get it to hold or does the brake simply not hold anything no matter how high you pull the lever? If I remember right I think you just have to increase the tension on the e-brake cable to get it to hold.

My car has a similar problem where I have to yank it all the way up. I read a manual that said its a nut somewhere along the cable and you simply tighten it I haven't done it yet so I cant say from experience.

You can adjust the rear brakes but the cables have most likely stretched over all these years. When I did my SN95 Conversion and also did the handbrake mods, it has never worked so good!

The adjuster is inside the drums. There is an adjustment wheel. Over time it seizes it and the adjustment fails to take place. From what i understand, when operating properly, driving in reverse and hitting the brakes would adjust tension. But if they are seized, you might need to go into the drums to fix the issue.
