When the engine is off, there is a strong gas smell coming from the engine bay. There is hardly any odor at all from the rear of the car or along the sides, just from under the hood.
Any suggestions as to what this might be? I didn't see any gas pooling on the intake manifold, and there don't appear to be any fuel leaks.
Thanks for your help.

Your floats may be set too high causing some gas to run out of the bowls of the carb and down the intake when you shut down.

Before anyone posts any tech help...I'll say this, go buy a book.

Is it a Holley carb?? If so, the adjustment is on top of the fuel bowl, you will need a wrench and a screwdriver. There is a lock nut and the adjusting screw. Also you will need to remove the sight screw on the side of the fuel bowl. With the engine running (fuel pump on) you turn the adjustment screw until the fuel level in the bowl is just at the lower edge of the sight hole on the side. Carefully hold the adjust screw while tightening the locknut.

You may also want to check around each of the connection points of the fuel lines. There may be a bit of a seepage that is hard to see but puts off the smell.

Thanks for the advice, all.
I found the problem: gas is seeping out of the carb from under and around the pump assembly.
I don't know why I didn't see this the first time, because I looked in that place specifically just because it is right up front and easy to see. I guess it just wasn't dripping then like it was last night.
