Engine = 182k...engine re-build kit?

I'm buying the trickflow H/C/I track kit next week. My engine has over 182k and I was wondering if I should get this engine rebuild kit too, from summit? Also, is there anything else you would recommend while I have my engine torn apart. (I will be having a mechanic rebuilding my engine). Thanks

With 182 000 miles ,in your place,i would have the shortblock refresh with at least new bearings and rings...

Yea i dont know if i would go ahead and spend the cash for a nice HCI kit when you have that many miles on the clock. A rebuilt kit i think is neccesary, but i would have a machine shop go through the block. Have em check the cylinders for straightness...etc. I just dont know if its worth it to spend all the $$ on the top end when the bottom end is questionable. good luck man

does the engine burn oil?? you could check compression, if it comes out good. I would slap them on, whenever the engine gets tired, just rebuild it.

amount of miles isnt a very big deal, its just how it was treated over those miles.

The Summit kit will do you fine...it is a basic rebuild kit at a basic price. It will be better than the mileage/wear you have on your car now...

Be prepared to spend some money on the rebuild...lots of things end up being needed to replace...prepare for it.

I would do at least a basic rebuild, ur paying 2-3k for a new top end u dont want to put it on something that might be going one of these days or just burn oil with ur nice new parts...But beware lol u think ur just gonna do a simple rebuild and might come out with a 331 stroker or something lol happened to me, i was just gonna do bearings and rering kit....i ended up doing everything in my sig, H/C/I and little more(BTW i used their forged piston rebuild kit). But a rebuild can add up very fast also but i think is very worth it in the end to know you dont have to worry about anything leaking, burning oil, low compression, etc. and will be running at its full potential and plus u know that you wont be putting a nice new cam into some old pitted cam bearings or something

I went the same exact route last year. I freshened up the motor with the re-ring kit and installed the Street Heat kit. It was worth the measly $200 extra

What would determine if just rings and bearings were sufficient?
#2. To have a shop r and r an engine im sure that cost alone might range $$$$600????
So if cylinders and crank were clean ok bearings and rings!
Im thinking it may make sense once its already out to get new pump, chain and gears,heads redone!

Such as as im in same situation 200k plus miles am thinking that once its on stand that things will have to be gone through and parts can add up fast right??

Machining cost, balancing, all the gaskets, and optional things like water pump, t-stat, etc. There may be some things you see when you have it torn down as well.

I'm saying it cost more than the '$200' kit.

yeah the same thing happened to me Turned into a 331 and I ended up sending WAY more than I planned
