I recently found out that the piston rings in the origonal motor are going bad it is starting to smoke. I would like to put in the Other motor i have from a 1986 Ford Crown Victoria. I Know that the c4 4 speed wont bolt up to the new block, so i plan on getting a 5speed some time, but since i am going from a carb'd motor to a EFI setup, What i need to know is what am i going to need. I have the whole crown victoria still so i belive that i can still use the factory computer. But what else is there that i am going to need? Also with a new tranny, i dont belive that the driveshaft will be the same length that i need after the swap. Is there one from a different vehicle that i can use? Is it alot of crap to go through to put all of the electronics into the stang? OR is there a kit that is sold to make it easier to change it over? I think I have heard of one but not sure where. Thanx for all the help guys!

why dont you just use the short block from the crown vic? (use the other stuff from the old engine. The car will be more powerful and its a much easier job. you may just want to do a rebuild also.

I heard that the 86 block is differnet than the 82 block, and that the tranny wont be the same bolt pattern. Can i keep the vick block, crank and pistions and just change the heads and powersteering and stuff? Or will i have to keep the vicky accesories? Either way i guess it wont matter, but i dont thing the mustang stuff will bolt to the vick block. So I would like to be able to use the vick lower end, and bolt the heads and carb and stuff back onto the vick block. But does anyone know for sure if the stock 82 tranny will bolt to a 86 block?

The mustang stuff will bolt on the crown vic block. You can use any 302 block from 68' up. Only difference being that I don't believe the crown vic block is a roller, but that doesn't have anything to do with the tranny bolting to it.

So if i take the vic block with the pistons etc. and use the stangs heads intake manifold and carb and the origonal mustang pumps and stuff, it will all fit together and the tranny will bolt up? I would really like to know for sure, so i dont get allthe way to the end and find out it dosent. OR can i keep the vic heads 2 and just put the Powered by Ford valvecovers back on over them?

Well you could definently put the powered by ford valve covers ont he crown vic heads. However I am not sure the crown vics pistons will work with the '86 heads. The '86 models had different heads that the '87 up cars have. I am not sure there would be enough piston to valve clearance. But againg I am not sure about that. You might PM Thumper460 he would definently know for sure.

The crown vick is an 86, the stang is a 82 gt. I would like to keep on the heads that will be better peformance wise/ ease of installation. i think the gt heads should have the larger chambers, hence not a ploblem in valve clearence.
