Engine caught on fire yesterday...

If I wouldn't have been quick on the draw, I would have lost it all. I think the alternator started arcing on something (not sure what) and it ended up lighting my CAI couplers on fire, an harness for the EGR, and my oil fill cap.

If it would have been on fire for any longer, it would have been dangerously close to going through the fuel lines right below.

I think my ignition wires will make it through. They are scorched, but are hopefully still serviceable. If they didn't have the sleeves on them that performance distributors puts on, they would have been melted for sure.

Anybody know where I can get the harness for the EGR system?

Ouch that sucks! How did you put it out?

Have you tried: http://rjminjectiontech.com for the harness?

I huffed and puffed...If I hadn't caught it when I did, I would have had to run inside to get an extinguisher. If this would have happened at the side of the road, and had been worse, I wouldn't have had much hope other than to strip down and throw my clothes at it. From now on I'll have an extinguisher in the car.

I have not looked at that site, I'll take a look - thanks!

Ive been meaning to get an extinguisher in my car ever since I had to call the fire dept when someones RV caught on fire. Glad your car made it, that would have sucked major balls.

EEEKKK!!!!!!!!! How did you know it was on fire? Was it smoking under yer hood? Are your alt wires freyed like mine? SHEESH I guess I'd better order those alt wires after all...

You just look for any quasi-excuse to strip down, huh. :rlaugh:

Seriously, I'm sorry to hear about this. I've looked at my alt charge stud and thought to myself that I best rig up a cap for that power post.

Be thoughtful when picking out an extinguisher. The ABC's tend to be very nasty (corrosive as I recall). The less nasty formulations can be pretty pricey. Definitely something to research (as I know you're a research hound anyhow Duncan).

Oh, in the meantime, a baseball mitt puts out fires decently (don't ask how I know. If you're a middle infielder, nevermind [small gloves]).

Good luck bud.

Duncan...look in the classifieds and there is a guy that goes by Jeepman...his name is Tim and he is always parting out one of our rides.....he may have the harness or will be able to get you one....
good luck..and at least it didn't burn to the ground........

After calling 10+ JYs, I was unable to find a single 94-95 302. I was hoping to be able to rob the EGR wires from one, but no luck there.

Anybody know if this is the right harness?

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to try to grab all of these wires from someone that has deleted their smog system.

As for the alternator, after doing some research, I like the looks of the RJM/FFI company posted above.

I plan on going with the 3G 160a alternator along with their charge cable and harness kit. Any other suggestions regarding this setup? I assume I want the 7"pivot mount, but what is the clocking required (12, 4 or 8?)

Thanks guys

P.S. - Will, I looked for that Jeepster guy, but could not locate him. Any more ideas on how I can find him?
