Hey I have a 331 stroker with 10-1 compression. I have it timed at 11* BTDC and have 92 octane gas in. It clicks quickly proportinate to the engine rpm's. It does not sound like it is pinging. What do you guys think it is?

Also my car is a 95 GT 5-speed.

ditto.
Also did you measure your pushrods to make sure you are using the right size. This can be a cause of rocker tick.

I just put in stock length pushrods. I have a trick flow stage 1 cam, gt40p heads and stock 95 lifters and pushrods. Also it is way to fast of clicking to be one rocker arm hitting the oil thinger.

I would look at the pushrods. Get the tool to measure what length you need. I'll explain why if i can. The lobes of a cam are round to start with and can only be so big. When they grind a cam they grind the circle into a lobe. Now if you want more lift and you start with the same size circle you are going to have to relocate that circle on the cam shaft. Offsetting it. So now the circle moves upwards and the grind that into a lobe. Now when your valve closes and it is in othe bottom of the lobe there is now play because that base of the circle is moved away from the spot the original cam lobe was located. I hope this make sense. I wish i could draw a picture.

I think I will take it to a tuner and see what he says then I will take it all apart if I think they are wrong. Thanks for the info tho. It does sound like something in the valvetrain.

It is not real loud. I think it is more noticable inside the car than outside. I bet if it is the valvetrain it will be louder if I take off the oil cap and listen. I will have to check it out later today. When I find out what it is I will post what the problem was.

Jeeze it might even be a small leak on the exhaust manifold or gasket.....sometimes they sound like a tick or knock when they leak.

Could it be the egr pipe leaking? I had to kinda ghetto rig that cuz my BBK headers and my 3/8 intake spacer messed stuff up. Is there any easy way to check if you have an small exhaust leak?

It can be tough to tell where the Tick is coming from. Start it up and stick your head down near the header bolts......if you hear it coming from an area shut the car off and tighten those bolts in that area. You might be better off going through and tightening them all up to make sure, before you start the car. I used to have problems with them leaking, I bought some nice copper gaskets and that was that

Put your hand on the valve cover to see if you can feel it hitting the baffle on the valve cover, you might feel it?

EGR shouldn't make a knock or tick sound, even if you dig rig it up. LOL

Let us know.

Lifters will some times be quiet but then start making a noise once the engine oil warms up. Does it click right from start or only once its warmed up?

I took it into my old auto class teacher and I used a stethiscope and I can tell it is comming from the valve train on only the pasenger side. My "senior advisor" says it is a rocker arm. I think I will take that valve cover and see whats going on.
