Engine Cuts Out When I Gun It

My '65 Mustang's Engine cuts out when I attempt a quick acceleration. This problem came out of no where...If I feather the gas, no big, and it does fine on the freeway once it's up to speed...But it's a bitch to even start it up sometimes...my buddy and I think the carb's to blame, anyone else have any ideas?
Much Appreciated,
Chrystie

It sounds like a bad accelerator pump, at first blush. With the engine off, and air cleaner off, look straight down into the carb (open the choke manually if you need to). Open and close the throttle. You should see a healthy stream of liquid gasoline squirt into the carb, just below the choke plates. Your post doesn't even hint at what engine or carb you've got, but it's generally not a big job to replace.

Let me guess....... Holley

If it's a Holley, red65 is right. Did it backfire thru the carb before this started??
