89 5.0- Installed an Optima red-top today, didn't realize the negative post was touching the underside of the closed hood after it was running for several minutes. Fixed the battery height but now the car seems to fall flat at 4500rpm. The engine gets pretty rough and doesnt pull like normal from there. Maybe the battery incident is a coincidence I don't believe in coincidences. Any ideas what to start checking?

What matters is the car is running like ***** now. And when it was touching it smelled like it was burning right through the hood liner, which was pierced down to the metal by the battery connector. Like I said, maybe a coincidence. Nontheless, it has running issues now.

Just an idea....I had a similar issue on my 93 yrs ago.
What happens if you increase your speed using less than full throttle? Like hold the accelerator down about 1/2 way or so and just keep accelerating. Let the RPMs increase up to and above 4500...how does it act?
We scratched our heads for weeks trying to figure mine out. It ended up being a faulty TFI module of all things.
Try to get as much evidence as you can...run the codes, experiment with different conditions, etc. It is so easy to start throwing part and money at it (like I did!).
Good luck and let us know how it's going.
