I was at the shop today purchasing some PB blaster and I noticed an ENGINE FLUSH fluid on the shelf. Since I am changing my oil this weekend I thought I might do the engine flush as well but I wondered if it would harm the engine. The directions on the bottle say to pour all of the contents into the engine (where the oil is poured into) and to let the car run for 5 minutes, after that it prompts you to continue with the normal oil change. Does anyone suggest I flush my engine? oh and I have a 2004 3.9L V6. Thanks

I never cared to use it. Your car's engine should be fine with out it. Just keep the oil change schedule consistent.

They're geared towards extremely dirty or neglected engines, but I wouldn't even use them on those. Here's why. They have a more concentrated detergent effect on the engine than the regular engine oil, but in the case of an engine with a lot of sludge, that might actually cause clumps of crud to break loose and float through the engine, clogging narrow oil ports. Think sort of a stroke in your engine.

If your engine is that dirty, it's best to do a professional flush with solvent. Much safer when the engine isn't running!

(Your engine probably isn't that dirty, and those products aren't needed)
