where is a good place to get a engine hoist for a cheep?

Rent one from any nation wide auto parts chain store near you. Advance Discout Auto Parts, AutoZone, etc.

I paid $99 for my hoist from pep boys. It was on sale.

yeah i looked at cummings and they have one for like 130 and a good stand for like 30, so i think i'll check them out, if all goes well i'll be rebuilding my 5.0 this winter

I agree, rent one if you will only use it once or twice, but if it's going to be common, I say buy one. Even the fold up one's take up a lot of space, so that is another issue.
