Engine quits without warning???

Any thoughts on this? I have 65 with a 302 in it with an A/T. It's running great. Starts up right away, idles nice and smooth around 600rpm and cruises around town with no problems and even runs cool in 100 degree summer weather around 190 - 210. But then without any warning, i'll be sitting at a red light or maybe stopped in traffic and it suddenly dies. It'll do this maybe 2 or 3 times throughout a typical drive around town. The idle doesn't struggle as if it's going to die, it just cuts off all of a sudden. I start it up, put it in drive and off i go and it won't do it for a while and then maybe a while later it'll do it again. Could it be a timing issue? As i said, aside from doing this every now and then, it runs like a champ.

I was going to say crap in the fuel line, but you say it suddenly cuts off with no spitting or sputtering?

Maybe a loose wire or ign switch contact in the coil circuit?

Worn out ignition switch, where the key goes in. Next time you fire it up, try and move the key around, up and down and see if it dies...

If your tranny is in neutral, does it still do it?

If someone added a tach to it, check the tach wire (green wire) that runs from the coil to the tach. Any little break in the wire and if it touches a ground, it'll kill it instantly.
