Do a compression test. Lots of stangs running around with 200K miles on them. We used to have this guy back home when I was in high school. He had 200K miles on his Mustang when he bought it. Put heads, cam, and a 200 shot on it, and ran over 200 ten second passes in it. He got his car in 5.0 magazine because of it.

Yeah, I'm just saying. Some of those engines run forever if they are taken care of. I wouldn't just assume that it's going to die on you just because it has high mileage. There was also that lady in Tennessee who made the news because her 89' Mustang GT had over 600,000 miles on it. Ford gave her two tickets to the Bristol race.

As long as you maintain the car and dont beat the bloody crap out of it, theyll keep going and going and going.... you get the point. But if you have the cash to do the work, then I say why not? Certainly wont hurt. What are you planning to do though? Upgrade? Stock rebuild? Though it would technically be a 306 after they took down the cylinders. My feeling on the matter is if youre tearing it all apart, might as well make a few changes while youre in there to improve performance.

Unfortunately it seems our computers are pretty finnicky when it comes to mods (not from personal experience, just from ten plus years of forum talk). It seems some people can add a HCI and not have many issues without a tune and then there are some that do a HCI upgrade and have no luck without one. Im sure some people will chime in on both sides of the fence. I just paid my car off so my engine upgrades wont be until this winter / next spring. The Trickflow kit is pretty nice and pretty complete. Some people might come in and say not to get boxed packages and go custom all the way, but its nice to buy a kit and have everything needed to install it. Especially if youre not looking to squezze every single ounce of power out of a combo.
His clients in MO and CA don't seem to care.
