Must be a 94-95 thing then. The EEC are load based with calculations based on displacement.

Thats definitely a 94-95 thing, those ****ers are very finecky about tuning and large engine mods. My buddy did gt40 heads, a stage 1 cam and a explorer intake and had lots of bucking and driveablility issues until his car was tuned

I think 87ttopstang made 425 rwhp with his 306 and Vortec S Trim. Of course he has the supporting cast of mods.

To the original poster: Figure out your goals for the car and build accordingly. This site is chuck full of info about what you are asking.

My opinion- 3 options, you can only have 2.

made 417rwhp with my NA solid roller 331 with a carb pushing the 7K red line. Check out my build thread for the details. Hope for more this spring with the new AFR 205 heads, will see in the spring as I plan to go back and finish the tunning.

Hardcore 5.0 has a few stock block 5.0's running over 7K and surviving.

Nah, it's more than possible on pump gas. You just have to do your homework and can't be afraid to use good parts. :eyebrow:

oh yeah if the budget if just making power at little to no care for price, its not to hard but most street cars dont fall in that group. most guys who build a nice sbf seem to fall 300-375hp @ flywheel but we will never stop trying to beat that #. thats why i love boost so much, it takes it from sporty fun to a kick in the ass

no, i dont have a lot of money to build my dream motor yet like some of us do, so i do what i can with what i got. mine for my 67 should be 375ish flywheel hp with a stock .40 over bottom and a 600cfm carb, an old school f4b intake, comp hydro tappet .512 lift cam and edelbrock 1.90 1.60 e street heads and some supporting mods. seems like most people get a fair cam and some gt40 heads and an intake and say its bad ass but most often puts alot less power down than the thought they had.

Yes and no on pump gas. 93 octane Sunoco with 1/2-3/4 gal of 110 racing gas per tank. Have a local gas station that sells both at the pump. It is probably over kill but like the idea of the leaded fuel as added protection.

One thing I will add is when Ed Curtis did the cam I told him I would be willing to sacrifice the high end horse power to make it more street friendly, he suceeded beyond my expectations it will pull down to 1600-1800 rpm in 5th gear with out bucking, granted it does have a 4.56:1 gear so about 2200rpm is 55mph. This cam is much more street friendly then my last hyd roller from him.

They are all talking about using the stock block from an early dodge dart, they are a direct swap and will handle 1000hp before breaking...
