I'm shopping around for a new engine, and this is what I've found that best fits my budget. It's a 302 with 345hp for $3200.00. Does a better deal exist than this one? If so, point me in the right direction. Here's a link to the engine I'm looking at.

DSS Racing can get you a short block, cank, pistons, connections rods, and main support (306/308) for $2000. Thats if you have heads and such and can do the work yourself. Check out there webbsite.

engine

DSS or CHP both do quality shortblocks! The ford crate motor uses hyperuritic pistons no good for longevity garbage parts and they overcharge!

I know its more money but in the long run it will be cheaper.Your gonna put that gt-40 motor in and get tired of it,your gonna want more HP.CHP has a crate motor for 4200(its only 900 more) and it has 420HP And DSS has a bullet crate motor for 3999.00,but it doesnt give the ratings.Im sure its around 400HP.Shop around dude,I heard that 345HP on the gt-40 motor is over rated!!

i was considering that engine myself, among a bunch of other options.

in the end its worth spending some more money, at least get the best foundation you can that has room to expand later on. that ford crate ive heard alot of downfalls to. mainly, it is overrated by ford using some weird hp rating system. hyper pistons is another downfall if you plan to run boost later on.

go with a nice shortblock or longblock and build off that for about the same money. get alot better power results. dss, chp, D&D are the main ones i looked at. you can get a 306 with main support, ect as someone else mentioned for 2k, or $500 more for a 331/347.

I cant imagion spending all that money on a motor and not getting forged pistons. If you ever want to add boost, your going to be kicking yourself. I think you would be better of piecing together a combo. Sure it would cost more money, but you would know what to expect and you could get high quality parts everywhere and make sure its done right.

yea GT-40 is crap if u want to go any further than the basically 350 hp its rated at. If not, its an ok motor, somewhat reliable i would imagine. (Good replacement motor for daily driver)

I could never buy that I dont trust ebay with mechnical parts, and that engine is worth way more then $2800, something smells fishy.

4000 is not bad for a crate motor,If you bought a short block, you would still have to buy heads, cam, lifters, thats almost 4000 rite there, and you still have to put it together!! Im not sure if those crate motors come with intakes though.
