how much space do you all (64 to 66 prolly) have between your fan and your radiator? im thinkin thatr mine could be shifted back to far causing my arm to hit my headers (prev. threads)

Kinda depends on the fan spacer people use adn teh size radiator. When i had the stock fan and spacer it was about a half inch from my radiator. I a had a 3core rad in at that time.

Like blue66tang said it all depends on the combo. The real question should be how much space is too far away. Did you measure yours? If so what is it?

Do you have a pic. Im not sure the engine could actualy sit that much farther back in the engine bay. The fire wall is pretty close.

a better measurement to take might be from the firewall to the back of the engine.

I would bet dollars to donuts that your engine isnt sitting back too far, yet instead your fan spacer is shorter than usual, it looks like a stock Ford spacer that someone cut to shorten

With the fan that far back from the radiator and in addition not having a shroud, it is not very effective.

From the picture, it looks like your engine is in a stock position. However, if it is set back, it could be the reason why you are have pitman interference problems with the Tri-Y headers.

there is no way i could push that engine up as much as would be needed..even an inch or two, there isnt enough "slack" to go that far within the tranny and driveshaft is there

Hi guys, I'm a newbi here but I do have some experience to bring to the table.

The farther away the fan from the radiator, the better. That holds true provided you have a shroud. A shroud makes all the difference in cooling. As a rule of thumb, the fan should sit about half in half out of the shroud. You can go up to 66% (2/3) in and not negativley impact the cooling performance. Of course you can get too close to the block and inhibit airflow on the backside of the fan, but the spacing of the water pump off the block will usually limit you from ever getting this close.

You also don't want too many spacers as that (coupled with a heavy fan) will impact the bending moment at the fan hub. This could lead to premature bearing failure.

Just my 2 cents!

The problem isnt with the fan guys. he is having problems with his headers hitting a steering component.

Do you have a pic of the header hitting the arm. I also didnt get the pics you posted ealier.
