went to autozone the other day picked up some belt dressing to stop the squeak didnt help so this time I asked the guy he looked at it and jiggled the idling pulley after listening to it and thought the bearings in it were bad. Is this true do you think?

is the back side of the belt shinny. the tensioner may be weak allowing the belt to slip now and then. cause the belt to glaze. you may have to replace the tensioner and belt to stop the noise

it is a little shiny.. but once the engine heats up the noise is alot better if that means anything?

if you have underdrives it could be the crank pulley

squeals when I start it up and run it untill it warms up then its faint. it gets louder as the RPMs get higher until again it warms up.
I do not have underdrive pulleys and I didnt feel the tensioner yet

i think i may too have this same problem...

I cant exactly tell where its coming from but it DOESNT do it when the engine is idling...it does it when it revs or revs down. It seems like its louder when the engine warms up and/or when im beating on it a lil. If i have it in neutral and rev it up to 3500, itll have a squeal SIMILAR to a belt squeak, but not as chirpy. This squirrly sound kinda sings.(if that makes sense?)
Is this how your problem is??

So there is a TSB for this problem...apparently ford screwed up when they made the tensioners for some of the 96-98 cars and it is weak. They have a replacement part for it through dealers which is steel instead of the stock aluminum one. I am not sure if this is the exact part that replaces it but it will fix it. I tried changing the alternator (??) thinking that it was just that pulley making the noises but yesterday it came back. Thats when i found the TSB. You can check it out here... http://scoa.org/legacy/ or go to the corral forums and check out what they had to say about it... http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=360064.
