Engine stalls when put in gear...

It's a 2.3 with an automatic tranny in a '88 coupe with speed density... all stock... Starts and idles fine but when put in gear, the engine dies immediately... I'm thinkin maybe a vacuum leak?

I put this in the 2.3 section but it seems to be pretty dead over there... Figured you 5.0 guys might be able to give me some help too...

I searched both forums and didn't find exactly what i was looking for...

Any advice and input is greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance fellas...

neutral safety switch may be bad. it tells the computer when you shift from neutral to gear and should bump the idle when you make that change.
