Has anyone used an engine support while changing their K member?

The one question I have is one of location. Do you place the support on the lip of the fender or the inner fender (the part that the fender is attached to)?? I plan on attaching a chain to the alternator bolts on the block.

The car is an 01 GT. It appears to me that if I place the support on the lip of the fender it will crush it against the inner fender well,...
