ok ive decided that i want to swap my 3.8 auto for a 4.6 5speed. now my 3.8 has 11k miles on it so im just gonna sell that for whatever i get. but how much money would you guys say im lookin at for the total cost. there will obv have to be some changes made interior like clutch pedal and shifter. but also will i have to make any changes to the body of the car itself? cut or replace anything else?
so far i know im going to need the 4.6 engine and a 5speed tranny. then of course ill have to get a clutch and flywheel and everything else needed for a 5speed. but is there anything major im missing here? it seems less complicated than i thought it to be

I tell you what. You have about two options.

1) Sell it and buy a GT
2) keep it and just buy the 4.2 stroker engine. www.rpm-mustangs.com This will save a BUNCH of stress and money.

Yeah...basically what he said.

Either try a power adder on your V6, or sell it and buy a GT.

Rear axle.

Looking at your other thread about selling your 04 V6 engine, check and make sure you don't have a 3.9L rather than a 3.8L engine (nitpicky, I know).

It is probably WAY more compicated than you originally thought. Many people have done it, but it takes a big chunk of money, time and requires lots of stress. Most that I know of said it would just be eaiser to get a new car than swap to a V8.

missionx96x,

I dunno if this will help out any , but to give you a ROUGH ESTIMATE! I'm swapping mine out later on but i'm more than likely going with the big block route. My project is budgeted for about $10k plus and extra $2k for the "oooh i didn't know i had to get that part" expenses ! and then some, maybe! Everything from the radiator to the tires will be totally replaced!

just my .02, if your really wanting to do a v6-v8 swap, do something to the V8 that makes it "unique" or "special." For example, find something like a 2000 cobra engine/tranny combo for the swap. The last time I saw them being sold were in "respectable auto parts mags." Or find a V8 for a killer deal and spend the rest on a forced induction system. Never go the Plan Jane route if your gonna put alot of time and money in it!!

Happy Modding!!

well i can tell you first hand, because i did it...it does take alot more than you would imagine, motor, trans, all new engine and trans wiring harness, fender harness, PCM, speedo, PATS reprogram, ....hydroboost brake booster, hydroboost lines, new exhaust, and probably alot more im forgetting, but it gets pricey, i only payed $600 for the motor and trans, but with all the electrical and hydro boost and misc. stuff...i rpobably spent almost 2,500 or more start to finish....and thats with me doing all my own labor....btw, the reatr axle is a must, my axle shaft is snapped after it 2nd pass at the track...but 10k miles on street abuse it held up......

good luck!
