My friend has a 65 coupe and has a new set of replacement upper and lower control arms. his plan is an every day type of driver with the ability to corner hard and possibly see autocross once or twice.

would it be worth reinforcing the control arms (ie. welding strengthening / stiffening plates) or would that just be a waste of time / money.

I have my personal opinion but was curious what each of you thought.

thanks!

We ran our first three years of open track with stock arms. In my opinion it would be a waist of time and money. Do the 1" drop and use 1 1/8" front and 7/8" rear sway bars with KYB shocks, it will handle great and ride nice.

the stock arms are pretty good, but they can be improved upon. with respect to the others, unless your friend is going racing, leave the arms alone. if he plans on doing some racing, then he should consider adding some stiffness to the lower arm especially as that is the one that flexes the most, and usually near the pivot point. the cost of stiffening is very small.
