The glue that was originally used was malleable to some extent. It could have been the same stuff used to glue windshields in.... not sure. The best part is I can't find anything on Google about it. I also can't find replacements for the quarter window guides ( the piece that attaches to the top frame ) frustrating.

Hey Steve, not being a convertible owner, I need to ask this question. Was it just a glue of some sort that held it in there? Or are there rivets like the door glass.

I can probably help you tonight after I get off work. I'll look through my shop manuals and see what they have to say about it.

BTW, our windshields and back glass use Butyl tape originally.

I don't see any evidence of them being riveted in, I am going to clean the glass tonight and see.

I'm going to try and give you some info. I wish I could scan all 25 pages but my scanner is down.

This is the window assembly. The window glass is glued in the retainer.

The bad part is this has to be removed to get the assembly out.

The window motor has to be removed prior to this. You could probably just clean the old crap off the glass, use some glass epoxy, and just stick the glass back down in there.

By the way this is the entire adjustment procedure for the top frame, glass, and weatherstrip. May be easier for me to mail this info to you.

I'm not sure it was epoxy, this stuff is flexible even after 28 years. I will see what's available at the auto parts store.

I'm going to remove both assemblies from the car so that I can get all the rust off the retainers. I have new motors, guides and Rod retainers to put in so I may as well do it right.

Judging from this picture I found on ebay of 2 good windows I think there was some kind of rubber form originally attached to the glass that is no longer there.
notice the silver looking form on the bottom of the glass, that is destroyed on my windows

Ok so after alot of cussing I got it apart.

tomorrow I will remove the passenger side as well. Bead blast the glass retainers (notice the rust inside the channel) and glue them back together.

OK I'll attempt this. I'm not big on downloading apps to my phone. They always ask for access to stuff that doesn't make any sense to me. Like a game that asks for location and access to my camera and media ( photos ) wth...

You made a custom blower set up....and you expect me to believe you can't make any part you need.

Lol the wedges and stops are made of some kind of rubberized plastic and I can't seem to find them anywhere (including ford) I did find the urethane glue that was used to secure the glass to the retainer, so that's a win.

I assume I can use the stuff to glue rear view mirrors on the wedge.

Check with an upholstery shop for the felt like rubber whatever it is.

The felt is in decent shape, I am going to be replacing it on the window guides however.

I am currently sandblasting, painting and gluing..... pics in a bit.

Done gluing.... here is a pic of it together, I have the new weather stripping and will repaint the metal on the glass with trim paint before installing. don't mind the mess, reorganizing the shed.

I had to split the retainer by drilling out the rivets so I could get at the rust. The I primed and painted the pieces before gluing the window back in and popping the rivets.
