Entire Dash Creakey

I dont know the word for it but you know when you drive or hit a bump it makes noise. if you lean on it it is like creaky you know like when you walk up steps sometimes it makes those noises. it started to do it more after i did the heater core swap. i only had like 5 screws left over not alot. the worst is the complete console. the whole dash doesnt do it often. what also does it alot is the shifter black bezel that goes around teh shifter you know? it creaks when i shift and everything.

any ideas?

Typically when you remove/unbolt the dash, you end up losing some rubber "buttons" and the felt tape comes off. Then your dash creaks.

You should go get some felt tape and unbolt all the connecting trim, speaker grill, a-pillar, defrost vent, ect. Place felt tape anywhere plastic comes into contact with plastic....or where ever trim peices come in contact with the dash itself. What you are hearing is the different plastic peices rubbing against each other. I bet it's more noticeable when it's nice and hot out...and more subtle at night.

Also be sure to check/retighten/install screws everywhere they might be missing/loose.

but its mostly where the consoles hit the actual body you know what i mean on the side of the seats. you know what im saying. where the radio is and all. its all creaky there. the dashfor the most part is'nt very creaky it is almost all the consoles.

Just apply the same theory to the center console. The sounds are the plastic peices rubbing against something....most likely rubbing against one another. If you put felt tape between the areas where two different plastic peices make contact with one another, that should get rid of any noise you are hearing.

That is just an example, your local crafts store should have it. Basically it's tape with a soft cloth material on top. It keeps any plastic peice from rubbing against something else (another plastic peice) so it won't make noise.

If you look at just about any car, there is a tape like this where trim peices meet each other to supress sounds.

tHANKS MAN I hear waht your saying but like the center console seems like its just rubbing against where it sits which is kinda of like on the chassis is'nt it? so where would i put it? and so its creaking where the console is scerwed into where you see it when you open the glove box so for instance where would i put the felt tape for that?

it's a Mustang...if the dash didn't rattle I think I'd be more worried!

Maybe not in this case, but I have also used rubber washers or anything thin and rubber that you can fit around the screws so that when you tighten the head down to the plastic, the rubber is between the head and the plastic. This helps a bunch on squeaks. But, yea, if it didn't rattle some it wouldn't be a mustang Heck, my 2002 Montanna has some squeaks too, especially where your knee hits the edge of the door switches. I have been known to even use the soft side of velcro to insulate the plastic too. It takes longer, but rtv silicone adhesive could be applied and let dry to form as an insulator.

Just pull the bezel up and put a few strips of velcro (the soft side) anywhere that the bezel meets the console. You just want to make sure the plastic of the bezel doesn't rub against the plastic of the console.

Also be sure you have all the metal tabs under the bezel, they tend to fall off. My bezel doesn't move at all since I put all the correct retainers in place.

I`ve had the dash pulled back twice to do heater cores,and it all went back together without any extra screws left behind.
Not 5 like you said.

My dash is solid and makes no creaking noise.

There should be no screws left behind.

Think about it!!! If you stiffen the Body, its not flexing as much thus reducing creaks and squeaks! After installing them in my car, my dash quit talking!
