Equus Builds A Ford Mustang With A Corvette Heartbeat

Slapping an LSx into a Ford Mustang isn’t exactly something watershed; and it’s always going to be a major point of contention for both sides of the muscle/pony car spectrum. So now, the car company Equus has a project which they call the “Bass770″, which calls upon classic Mustang style as well as various Chevrolet Corvette cues. It’s a fastback Mustang with the unmistakable horse emblems on the grille and rear deck lid, but there is something more to it, once you look a bit deeper.


Underneath the carbon fiber-wrapped aluminum body lies the pulse of one of Chevy’s most impressive power plants–the supercharged LS9 V8. Transferring the 640 hp & 605 lb-ft of torque to the rear end is a dual-clutch six-speed transmission, resulting in a staggering 0-60 mph time of just 3.4 seconds.

I think it's beautiful, and it has an amazing looking interior. I can't help but wonder why this Mustang based platform needed an LS9. Maybe they got a good deal with the manufacturer, or maybe one of Ford's modular motors wouldn't fit as well. I can't help but think that a Ford GT engine or a '13+ GT500 5.8L could make as much or more and would be considered just as exotic. Not to mention, it would be more at home in a mustang-based car. Still, I love the fastback roofline, especially from the rear. Amazing looking car. I'd feel conflicted about driving a mustang with a chevy motor, though.
