This weekend I decided to take off the upper intake along with t/b and egr plate. I got everything all cleaned up and I decided to put on the new valve covers I got for Christmas. They are aluminum Ford Racing covers that have the machined grooves and lettering on top. The guy at the speed shop said there would be no clearance issue. Put everything back together and had to trim the throttle cable bracket, no big deal. Get everything else all buttoned up and when I try to start....revs to 3K and dies . The least little touch of the throttle and the RPMs are outa control. I began feeling around the vacuum lines under the plenum and I discovered that the little square junction block for the vacuum lines was resting right on the valve cover. Sucking major amounts of air. SWEET!. Needless to say we had to take it back off to machine the fitting . Now all is well and I don't have to drive the POS '02 Cavalier to work again . I guess there wasn't really a point to this story other than a warning if anyone is gonna run these covers.

What I want to know is what is the problem with the "little square junction block for the vacuum line resting right on the valve cover"

So what? This causes vacuum leaks??

What is the fix for this. What does he mean "machine the fitting"?
