I didn't want to add additional work to your maintenance, but I know the few that I have replaced left bits of the gasket on the heads mating surface. If left this would have caused a leak on that flange. Just my 2 cents

Either the stainless 3 layer header gasket of the copper rtv. Only 2 you can use if you don’t ever want a leak.

Stage 8 bolts would help to keep them from loosening up.

Buy these gaskets and never have a problem ever again. I’ve used them with the headlock bolts. No issues whatsoever. Mine were bigger for my larger exhaust port, but those should be about right for stock.

I do like Cometic gaskets. A lot of the guys on the Factory Five forums swear by them.

They make a damn good gasket. Also, they’re very thin so they drop in real easy. There’s a nice embossed area around the port which seals up great.

I won’t go back to aluminum after using these. Rtv is still up there if you can pull the header back far enough though.

the cheapest you can find ..but spray some Permatex Copper high temp gasket on it .... Done ..

I’ve used this before on head gaskets. It would work on exhaust manifolds, but I like the copper rtv that comes in the tube better. It fills in all the little scratches on the mating surface.

I use the same cheap header gasket that comes with the Shortys now for the 3. time ..just spray a good amount and it never leaked...so for me it worked very well ...but I just have a street engine ..maybe for a race or high performance engine, the copper rtv will do a saver job... ??!

We aren't concerned with race engines in this thread...lol. My car never goes above 3000 rpm and has less HP than a new Nissan Sentra. This thread is about long lasting gaskets.
