EXHAUST QUESTION

Alright so I had this terriable exhaust on my car which broke right... and it had to be fixed A.S.A.P. so I brought my (1990 mustang gt) to MIDAS...

They charged me $1400 for this really crappy job that they did.. they made the one pipe on the left side from the motor too long like when im driving it'll scrape on the ground. then the one pipe from the muffler was too short && broke && they had the pipe by the rear right tire RUBBING on the tire, the hanger the black peice is supposed to be straight && its crooked && they put two different mufflers the one on the right is small && the one on the left is huge

they said that everything that they did was "stock oem parts on how the car" and it was now exactly the same as it was when it left the show room..

my question is... are the mufflers supposed to be 2 different sizes because i never heard or seen that before && personally i dont believe them && i was just wondering if someone on here could tell me..

I don't know if the mufflers are the same exact size, but they should be pretty friggin close. Nothing should come anywhere near the ground, though, the hangers on a 5.0 are so easy to use, anyone with a basic knowlage could put up any number of systems. At $1400, go right back to them in the morning, when they open, and before anything breaks on it, and ask, in no uncertain terms, WTF? Good luck, Midas not know for, well, anything!

For $1,400, you could've bought a nice full exhaust (headers, X-pipe, and cat-back) and still had money left over for all the tools to do it yourself. Nothing personal, but ... who the HELL pays $1,400 for EXHAUST work?!?

Go back there and DEMAND that it be done up RIGHT. And slap yourself repeatedly during the entire drive there for paying $1,400 for exhaust work ... and especially for going to MIDAS for it...

but since you didnt what does your reciept say? list any parts or part#'s . If its just like off the showroom floor did they buy the parts from FORD? mufflers should be EXACTLY the same size? Sounds like they welded in a custom made piece and the idiot who welded it on did not measure or bend it correctly . Did they consult you and advise you of the astronomical fee before they did the work.....?

Go back there and speak to the manager and voice your concerns . If he laughs at you , come back and we'll advise you what to do next . And I also agree wholeheartedly with smacking yourself silly , maybe even a punch or two .

lol my dad was the one who had the brilliant idea of going there because hes like "you have no inspection on your car && you need a sticker blah blah blah take it to midas & have them do it blah blah blah"

&& i dont kno what kinda mufflers they put on it but they are clearly 2 diff brands lol && sizes && i argueed with the friggen manager && the tech who has a 5.0 && hes like blahhh i have the same car as you (yet he stalled mine like 5 times pullin it into the shop) blahhh this is the right exhaust && how mine looked b4 i changed ittttt

i told him im like i dont care you have the "same car as me bc everyone has a 5.0 && exhaust shouldnt look like that" i think they are trying to pull one over my head because im a girl && they think i dont know crap about anything && they tried to say i had all kinds of stuff wrong wit the car that aint wrong with it so yeah ill be there... AGAIN tomorrow =] thank you

Wow. That sucks. I don't know what to give you for advice since they already ****ed you over and I wouldn't trust them to do it again.

Okay, sorry to nitpick, but I have to ask ... WTF is with the "&&" between every other sentence? It sounds like an excited kid hopped up on caffeine, trying to rattle off some really long Speed Racer-like run-on sentence...

"So, like, I was on my way to school, an-an, I saw this really super-awesome car, an-an, I was all like, WHOA! an-an like there was this other car that drove by after that, an-an, like, it was all super-awesome cool, too, an-an..."

You get the idea...

Just curious, because Frankenstang's 14-year-old daughter types that way, and so I thought there was some sort of reasoning behind it...

the parts u listed only add up to $989.92 plus tax. how did u come up with $1400.
$989 is a little high but considering a aftermarket system with cats will run about the same give or take. if u dont like the quality make them redo the work with the right parts or threaten them with the bbb. try to go higher than the mgr. try to take it to a different midas to see if they can fix to your likeing. other than that, i guess just bite the bullet and move on. u will know next time to shop around, no matter how bad the car is.

the reasoning behind the && is i hold the key too long, lol i have realized getting advice from my father is stupid & its a great way to get ripped off / ****ed over... last time ill do that again haha. we'll see what happens tomorrow, & ill post up here about my wonderful experience

Don’t ever take your 5.0 to a shop, when you show them a fox they get extra retarded and they think it’s a damn spaceship or something. Years ago I was green and didn’t have any tools my exhaust rotted off, so I got a new exhaust system from Summit and I wanted an exhaust shop to simply install it. The guy was confused about going to 2.5 in pipes, "What do you want to do that for, I don’t understand...why???", "But it already has headers.” (stock manifolds). In the end I didn’t let them touch my car.

I hope they didn’t give you a 2 1/4 exhaust system, then you really really got ripped.

And the mufflers are supposed to be the same, it seems two different ones would cause an imbalance or something... anyway it's not right.

That really sucks, but if i were you i would take the car back, tell em to rip that sh1t off right away and put get your money back. Did you pay with a credit card? I would dispute it immediately and start making some phone calls, they took advantage of you , probably because your a girl. Like others have said, you could have ordered a complete aftermarket exhaust of your choice and had it installed. You have lots of mustang friends on here who are in the jersey/pa area, and I/we could have recomended a good shop to you for a good price. Personally i would work on gettin my money back and getting that shotty system they rigged up, off as quick as i could. Hope everything works out, and there is no need for any kind of custom exhaust for a mustang, i hate when people do this because there is no need, there are a billion +1 bolt on exhaust systems for mustangs. Keep us updated, oh and post pics/nudez lol.
