Been a while since I have updated this thread. I have spent my free time restoring the green impala next to my car below. I rebuilt the chassis, new QA1 suspension, trans, installed a new blueprint engine as well as new floors. Installed a Sniper 2 system on it. It just had its alignment the other day. A couple odds and ends and she is ready for the season. Which is almost over but it will be done in time for the Pumpkin Run this year. This winter I will tackle the bodywork. Then back to my car.
Part of my constant vibration at speed was a bad harmonic balancer. It was purchased new for this engine when I had it rebuilt. It is listed as a 28oz but I am now wondering if something went wrong in packaging or manufacturing. I pulled it and one side of the snout shows a lot of wear and the other is clean as a whistle. I put a used one on from a 70's 302 and the vibration improved considerably. I think it shook the crank so much I probably need new bearings. I will just drive it till something else happens then I will have the engine balanced next tear down.
It was so loud. You could not use a cell phone or talk without asking huh or what a lot. I first added cherry bombs to the cherry bomb muffler. It was still very loud. Inside you could not hold a conversation at speed. I now have some off brand stainless mufflers from the local exhaust guy on it. It is quiet inside.... well relatively quiet. You can now have a conversation but she still bellows at wot. I've had her up to about 70 and there is no drone at all.
16 year old me would be disappointed in xx year old me but at some point comfort has to come into play.
Here she is at last years Pumpkin Run. It gets a lot of attention. It is debadged so I get a lot of "what is it questions. Then the old guys recognize it and start reminiscing about their adventures in a II back in the day. I had more people interested in it than the other cars in our group.
Now that the weather should be cooling off I plan on getting the rear sway bar mounted. Replacing the rear kyb shocks with trw's. Then try and paint something on it. I picked up a couple cans of ford red spray paint at the local auto paint store. They mixed it and put it in a rattle can. I'm going to see how well it matches. How it lays down.
If your at the Pumpkin Run come say hi. I will have this car there and am hoping to get the Mach I there as well as the 76 coupe.
