On a 1996 Explorer intake there’s a vacuum fitting where coolant passes through. What is the purpose of coolant passing through this vacuum fitting? Does the coolant temperature open/close the vacuum supply and if so at what temperature is it open or closed?

It flows all the time. There's no open or close.

You don't need the thing. It's supposed help get things above freezing for cold starts. Most people eliminate it.

Are you talking about the coolant lines at the throttle body?

I just want to make sure that if the coolant lines are not connected here that the vacuum supply won’t get cut off.

Do you have a hand-pump and plugs?

If not, corner parts store just to verify.

If oyu want, you can just pull that entire fittins out, and then tap the hole for NPT and install a hose fitting. The coolant lines just surround a jacket to keep the vac line from freezing up. I forget what that line is used for on the exploder, but it must experience pressure drop which causes freezing under the right conditions so Ford added the coolant jacket to keep it warm
