Thinking about an 08 Sport Trac. Looking for 4wd.

Has anyone got one, and will the 4.0 six tow a Mustang on an open trailer?

Any experience with the 4.6 version, and the 6 speed trans? How about towing.

I see trans problems listed for the 4.6 six speed on various web forums.

I've got an 02 4.0 4x4 and I like it. I've towed a little bit with it and it does ok but not great, towed some fairly heave loads but not, never towed a car though. Considering mine's got 4:10 gears in rear it's a little gutless.

Don't know much about the 4.6's though.

why not just go on to fords website and look at its specs, it should have one for towing. If not then that answers your question for towing a mustang.

I believe Ford brochure has the 4.6 able to tow a car sized load a buddy of mine just bought one in a 4.0 and loves it. He pulls a triple quad trailer with it and says it pulls ok thanks to the 4.10 gearing but wishes he would of popped for the v8.

Youre probably better off getting a fullsize truck for towing a car around.

When I worked at ford the issues I noticed the most were the balancers going bad. I'll probably snag a 4.6 4x4 in the next year or so.
