Export brace question.

Historic: the monte carlo bars out there are all for v8 cars and the I6 car I have has diffrent mounting holes for the bar. I have an original export brace, but I always see people telling other people to get export braces to make their car handle better and I though all cars came with them to start with.

Plus the maier setup is about 185 but connects the shock towers together with the export brace. Or I could use the stock export brace and fab up the monte carlo bar's mounting brakets.

The aftermarket export braces are repops of the brace ford put on exported vehicles for stiffening purposes to conform to foreign laws. Hence the term "Export brace." The difference between the one your car probably hance the aftermarket one is that they one piece and yours is 2 piece.

The typical Monte Carlo bar should work just fine. The typical one mounts into the top two bolts along the shock tower where the spring cover bolts up. Mine also had 2 holes on top that I put bolts through myself. Got mine from Mustangs Unlimited.

The main problem I see witht he maier one is that it ONLY mounts tot he tops of the shock towers. A normal monte carlo bar helps restrict the inward tilting force of the shock towers by simply making them push on each other. This does it too, but in a way I think is less effective since I believe that is a weaker way to mount it. I do like that it mounts the monte carlo bar to the export brace and makes it all one piece.

Thanks, BUT all the normal monte carlo bars won't work on my car because its an origanl I6 car and the bolt holes don't match up....I know this because I bought one and it doesn't line up but I can fix that.

Anyway, so where do I get one of these one piece export braces?

The wholes not lining up is not due to your car beind an I; it's because the early cats had unevenly spaced wholes and the they changed to evenly spaced wholes. Check some websites and you'll find both types listed at some.
