Extended Service Plans

Ok guys....what do you think about extended service plans for mustangs. Normally I would never consider an extended warranty....but since my 04 with 30k miles already needs two new cylinder heads due to valve guide wear, probably needs a new fuel sending unit, and exhibits some of the classic tranny grinding.....it makes me wonder. I can probably get a powertrain plan (engine, tranny, and rear-end) for about 900 bucks for 5 yr/50k miles. I drive about 10k a year...and the car should be paid off in about 5 years. Figuring the two new heads and labor probably would have cost about 2k alone if this thing weren't under warranty. My warranty expires now in about 4 months. I know it might limit my modd'in ability...but at least I'd have some peace of mind about the car lasting till its paid off without having to sink tons of bucks into it.

I'm glad I got mine. When my head threw the spark plug, all I paid was $50.00. Job would've costed over $2000.00.

WOW you are having lots of problems.. most of the V8 mustangs are very reliable. yeah I think I would go for it on your car.

In my opinion it depends on how much cash you have laying around. If you have major problems they are great, if minor problems it's hard to get the money back.
But if money is tight and if you'd have a real hardship if something costly happened, then buy the warranty.

I think they are a ripoff and I absolutely never buy them

Even worse is to finance the extended warranty so two companies make money off you

Here's what I have done so far in terms of warranty work:
2, yes 2 cylinder heads, both threw a plug.
1 O2 sensor
Those are the most expensive warranty jobs I've had performed so far, but I am thankful that I did buy the warranty. Like I said, I would have had to pay for 1 head job and the O2 sensor.

Normally I wouldn't consider the warranty....but with this car, I'm thinking either a warranty or just selling the freakin' thing. I love my mustang, but I love a car that I can trust much better. For this car I'd almost rather pay the $1k up front for another 50k miles which for me would be about 5 years of driving than to have to possibly cough up a few grand for a repair. I've never had a car in the shop for a several thousand dollar repair, but I imagine I would not be happy spending that and wouldn't have that much cash lying around right now.

Anyone wanna buy an 04 GT with 2 new heads?

ford really should help out people with the cyl head problems. A updated head would be nice.

I think they are a great idea if you don't plan on seriously modding your car or if you do not have means or know how to work on your own car.
I personally hate extended warranty because I have to do the work for warranty time but I made my dad buy it when he bought his expedition.

Lets face it, fords are not very reliable vehicles and right around that 3 year mark stuff just starts to break or wear out.

That's the prob....if I get this warranty I won't be able to do many mods....have to stick with appearance and suspension mods mostly. I definetely wouldn't trust my own skills in replacing cylinder heads.

SVTTECH - is it safe to assume that the new heads I'm getting are the exact same thing. Is there always that chance it'lljust start rattling again in 10k miles?

I thought the 03' or 04' head had more threads macnined into the head to solve that problem?

I think it would be a mistake not to buy it if you plan on keeping the car and are having that many problems allready.

Id be really nervous about having a car that un-reliable without any type of warrenty on it.
