Hey y'all, I recently installed a predrilled separator plate in my Wife's '04 GT sold by a place called Factory Tech Transmissions. It's supposed to emulate Jerry's mod for 4R70W and 4R75E trannys. Immediately after install, I noticed the tc no longer "flashed" while in 1st gear-felt like it was locked up or taking off in second...in short, VERY slow, and was kinda sensitive in 3rd and 4th with regard to tc lockup.

The kit seemed very straightforward to install; drain fluid, remove main control (valve body), remove old separator plate, install new pre-drilled separator plate, remove old springs and pistons from 1-2 accumulator, install single spring and new pistons, reinstall main control, reinstall pan, refill, test drive. In case anyone is wondering why the 2-3 accumulator wasn't mentioned, the factory bottle cap was a three prong unit that was pressed into the tranny housing, and I don't really feel like dinking up the tranny housing-the instructions also mention that step as optional anyway.

While this is the first time I've installed a shift kit, I'm no stranger to rebuilding or modifying drivetrain components and following instructions...I've rebuilt more engines than I can easily recall, installed superchargers, rebuilt/upgraded the T-5 in my '84 after shelling out 3rd, installed a few gearsets, installed suspension systems, components, etc, etc.

I also just got an SCT X3 tuner in the mail from AM, and it makes a helluva difference, but I'm still having the problem with 1st gear. I truly believe the car was at least a solid second quicker just from 0-60 before the mod...the 1-2 shift is awesome, but if it takes forever to get there, what good is it?

Does anyone have any ideas on what may be amiss here?

Is it possible that the plate is for a different version of the transmission (4R75E) and is not compatible with mine?

Is there something I should look for?

If anyone out there has contact info for them, I'd greatly appreciate it, as their website is under construction and I can't find anything else on them. Thanks in advance for any help you guys/gals can offer...

i would take the shift kit out and see if it continues, if it doesn't then its the separator plate you bought. the only shift kit i would recommended is from DirtyDogPerformance.com the guy is on TCCOA and specializes in these transmissions, he also uses a modified J-Mod depending on what you want it use if for. From what i gather on the plates between the 4R70 and 4R75 is that they are interchangeable, but i would start by removing the kit, and if the kit is the issue get it from dirtydog.Transmission rebuild kits and parts - AOD/AODE/4R70W - 4r70w plate style shift kit - DirtyDog Performance (Powered by CubeCart) - DirtyDog Performance
