Fair Price??

I dont think they made a Grande in fastback style, could be wrong though. I think the Grande was more of a luxury trim package. Mach 1 was a performance package, the two cars are apples and oranges.

Grande was actually a Luxury package that went beyond trim, it was heavier and loaded with insulation. Mach 1 from what I've seen is strictly a TRIM Package. Although most people bought Mach1's with performance upgrades, it wasn't part of the Mach1 package. As far as a fastback Grande, I've never seen one, and I always thought it was coupe only, but don't take that as fact.

I checked a couple of VIN decoders, and didn't find a code for grande in 69 so it was probubly not coded seperately from the regular car. but in 70, I found this;

Body Code Body Style
01 Hardtop
02 Sportsroof
03 Convertible
04 Grande (coupe only)
05 Mach 1 (sportsroof only)

Also keep in mind, Ford did a lot of things that "didn't exist" such as special colors. So it's possible even if it isn't a standard option, that someone could have ordered the grand luxury package on a fastback. You'd probubly have to get the build sheet to be sure.

EDIT: I just found this for 69.

63A Sportsroof, Standard 56,022
63B Sportsroof, Deluxe 5,958
63C Mach 1 72,458
65A Hardtop, Standard 118,613
65B Hardtop, Deluxe 5,210
65C Hardtop, Bench Seat 4,131
65D Hardtop, Deluxe Bench Seat 504
65E Grande 22,182
76A Convertible, Standard 11,307
76B Convertible, Deluxe 3,439 299,824

it's possible that is the grande version of the fastback.

I would keep shopping. mine wasn't in mint condition, but I got a '70 fastback with a 4 bbl windsor, headers, magnum 500's and no rust for $5,500. Just depends on what you want though. I came VERY close to buying a '70 FB with just a 302 for $8,000 because (1) it had a good looking paint job and (2) it was the first one I saw. I would just say not to get trigger happy, because there's always a better price somewhere. Just my 2 cents.

While $8200 sounds like a good price for that fastback, that was just what it was bid to, and $8800 didn't meet his reserve. Who knows what he wants. Nice fastbacks should easily pull over ten grand.

The Grande was a luxury trim package, with extra sound deadening insulation, unique trim and deluxe interior.

The Mach 1 could probably be considered more than just a trim package as the 351w-2v was the minimum engine you could get with it. Also, Mach 1s were always fastbacks, Grandes were always coupes. While you could get a Grande with a lesser engine, I have never seen one with a six, so maybe a 302 was the base engine for that package. Just about every 351 coupe I have seen for 1969 was a Grande model.

Unless it is a show car, 9k is too much for a Grande.

In '69 and '70 (these are the only years I KNOW for sure about in this case) the Grande was a package available for coupes only. It had heavier sound insulation and a specific interior decore group/ unique badging. I believe it was able to have any engine option ( I remember the mustang place I used to work for had a '70 Grande with a 250 inline six in the bone yard). It was a nice package and they didn't make NEAR as many of those as Mach 1's.

The Mach 1 - Again - in 69 and 70 was a package with a deluxe interior, specific badging/stripes, and the following performance oriented enhancements:
Competition suspension (same as GT suspension - HD components over base)
Base engine - 351 2v
SS wheels (or the wheel covers in 70)
raised WL tires
Blacked out Hood with hoodscoop (nonefunctional base)
Hood pins (could be a delete item)
Pop open gas cap
Round "rally clock" in passenger dash.
In '70, the mach got its own specific vin code.

I'm sure there are a few items I neglected but in a nutshell... the mach was a nice package.

In '71 the mach's base engine became the 302 2v.

Sorry for the long post.

ps ( a Grande with a 351 and nice options in good condition should be worth it.)

that is a nice car, but i want a coupe.
Since you want a coupe, but not necessarily a Grande, you should be able to find another car a lot less expensive and probably in better condition.

You should ask yourself what your final goal is for the car to help decide what to buy. Do you want to restomod, restorace, restore? If restore, a Grande like this one is probably a better choice. A nicely restored Grande could be very nice looking and have decent value. If you want to restorace or restomod the vehicle, DON'T pick a Grande. Pick the cheapest coupe you can find with the options/engine you want.

I hope that makes sense. Good luck.
