1. What is a good tire size? I was looking at 15x6 but I was looking online and it said it needed a backspace of 4 (inches?) What is that exactly?
Will they fit with no rub? Any sites with good 15" Wheel and Tire packages?
Thanks!

2. Radiator.. I'm putting a 302 in the car (66..) so I need some good cooling since the earlier ones were prone to overheating..suggestions? favorites?

3. Transmission- Heres the big problem, I can't seem to find what bolt pattern (6 bolt?) I need to fit onto a 302, looking for a 5speed.

Thanks for all the help!
Just answer as best you can, any help is good!

restomod and 15x6?
Naa, at least a 15x8 in the rear and 15x7 up front.
tirerack.com has a great selection of tires and explains backspacing very well (backspacing is how far in, or out your rims stick out from the rear axle. Less backspacing the further from the axle and closer to the outer fender).

I've had good luck with NPD's hi-effeciency 3 core radiator.

Your tranny choice will also vary with the bellhousing selection. Lots of options here. What tranny and clutch linkage do you want and we'll send you off in the right direction.

Cool, I take it since you recommended them they will fit (the tires). What about 15x7 in the back and 15x6 in the front?

I just DLd the catalog so I will look for the radiator.

Tranny I want to go with a T5 (if I can find a resonably priced one..) What's the difference in clutch linkage?

Thanks for the help!

Clutch linkage can be stock z-bar, cable, or hydraulic. For a restomod, I say 17X8 as that is what I'll be going with. I believe you would need a 6 bolt bellhousing pattern as 5 bolts only came in early cars, I could be wrong but this is what memory tells me from my conversion. I used to have overheating problems too, one day I just decided to put down some cash. I bought a 4 row from mustangsplus or mustangdepot and never looked back. It still dosen't even get half way up the gauge with my built 306.

i wouldn't go for 6" wide wheels. you will have absolutly no problem with 15x7's all the way around. and if you pick the right wheel i bet they will be stunning. with a 205 or 215 tire? and i'de go with a 50-60 sidewall. so...20560r15 or something, good luck with that it's fun to get some nice looking rims on your car :).
in the catigory of Radiators whatever you get is going to be better than stock for the most part, i would just go with what was suggested above. but tranny, you have so many options with the t5 as long as you aren't going crazy with the engine which it doesn't seem you are. whatever you do if you're going for power brakes plan on a hydralic clutch. otherwise you will most likely be fine...but from what i've heard the hydraulic clutch is the way to go anyway.

Alright thanks, sounds like hydralic clutch is the way to go. and a nice radiator.

Quick question.. If you have installed ball joints on your upper controls, and they had screws, were the washer and nut on top of the control arm, or vice versa?

I wouldn't buy anything just yet. Since you are a new to the Mustang thing (cars in general ?) I woud say you really need to look at the why before you go buying parts.

Everyone wants to slap a set of rims on a car when they get it. Its the thing to do. But have you considered what brakes are going to go on the car ? If you buy a 15" rim that will limit how big the brakes can be that you are going to put on later.

As far as changing the trans out, what trans do you have in now ?

Concerning the radiator, you said you were going to put in a 302. Are you going to keep the vbelt setup or are you going to switch to a later model serpentine setup ?

Every major choice you make will change what parts you have to choose from. For example, if you put a serpentine setup in, you will need a different radiator then if you went with the vbelt setup. I know you are excited about your car and have a lot of ideas about what you want to do, but I'd slow down and do a lot of careful planing and research before you go sinking more then 100 dollars into anything.

i think you missed something Rusty67, not that i am being malicious, but earlier he wanted 15x6 inch wheels, i don't think this dude is going to go crazy. he wants an updated classic not what most of us want, a new car with a classic attitude. he's talking about making what he has go better, and be a nice daily driver.

i mean why would he go and switch it up with a serpentine belt, unless he was going EFI i suppose.

i agree with you however that he needs to either tell us what exactly he's looking for or he needs to figure it out himself ;) that and the transmission thing, you're right on asking about what he's got now, i'm surprised no one else did lol!

that said the way i read his post was that he wants to only scratch the surface and make his classic a nice driver. eh?

Rebel, no offense taken, these boards are here to help people. The only reason I say that about the rims is that if he later finds out that his car doesn't have the woe for the go then he is gonna be PISSED when he needs to buy bigger rims to fit the bigger brakes. We don't even know if he has disc brakes up front. Its like I always tell my friends. You can always spend the money later, but you can't unspend the money you spend now.

Your right about the updated classic, I'm not planning on making this a super nice restomod, just something comfortable and nice, nothing big (maybe later on)..

I do have discs up front, I should've mentioned that, In the car right now is an automatic and a I6, no fun :).

To answer some of your questions: This is going to be one of my daily drivers, a fun car I suppose. I'm going to stick with the VBelt setup, just because I need to get it done..

The only reason I'm in a hurry is because I'm trying to get it going, I got a late start and had a busy summer, I just want to get it on the ground, you know?

Thanks for the help!

Rusty ;)

and to accentuate what rusty said.

Newstang: check and double check the 5 lug replacements you're getting and make sure you're getting a disc setup that will fit under your wheels. SSBC makes a nice one that will fit under a 14"! so a 15 will be plenty good for that kit. i have it and am surprised that i get such a good stop out of an itty bitty rotor. corse the aluminum calipers help :).

Are you talking about the frame bushings or the end links ? The end links wont flush up right the first time. I just load the suspension up and take it for a quick 1 block drive then come back and tighten the end links after the settle in properly. The ones on the frame should flush right up. Take a picture if you can and post it. That will help.

As it looks like you are going to be doing a LOT of work on the car yourself, I would highly advise you to get the actualy Ford shop manual for your car. It will have torque specs and procedures that will save you time and headaches.

As for the pitman arm, I think I used a braker bar and had someone hold the steering wheel.....

I don't trust Chiltons or Haynes 1/2 as far as I can throw them. IMO they are major POS's. They have caused me headache and heart ache. My actual blue oval service manual was one of the best investments I could have made.
