Fiberglass Hoods vs. Metal Hoods

I'm gonna step out on a limb here and say that if the truth were to be really known that the reason most hood pop up and do all that damage is for one simple reason; it was never really checked to make sure it was really latched and secure before the person drove off is my belief.
In my case I close my hood and then I try lifting up on it again to make sure it is secure, versus thinking I closed the hood and later saying that the only reason it popped up was because it was made from fiberglass so can I get another hood and I’ll make sure I pin it this time.
Sure if you want to go 150-200 mph then I agree you need a pinned hood, but for your normal everyday daily driver why screw up a hood with cables and pins unless you think it a bling thing.

go with a fiberglass hood. Youll be happy with it. i agree that most people who's hoods fly up is because they don't latch them properly, but i would still put pins in it just because they look good in my opinion.

The reason why my hood poped open on the freeway is because it became misalligned after about a month of mechanics and myself openeing it up and some of us slosing it too hard. The hood was caught by the safety and no damage was done exept it was really misalligned after the incident! After that I pinned it fast!! As far as fading my factory spoiler (sorta) which the 87 rag tops have fads faster than any Cervini hood I ever saw and yes it is fiberglass too!! :SNSign:

Well they are giving me some overtime at work next week...I guess I will use the money to buy a Cervini 2.5" cowl hood. I plan on buying the Ford Racing stainless steel hood pin set...how hard are hood pins to install? Thanks.

The hood pins are actually very easy to install just a matter of drilling a few holes I personally hate the look of them especailly if there not straight lol thats why I would prefer my bodyshop too do it they also have the stick on ones too . I'm getting this done on my car this summer I can see my fiberglass hood shake at high speed which worries me because I have 600$ ford after market windsheald with the ponies on the sides as for paint fading mine was painted three years ago and still looks brand new and when u get chips u don't have to worry about any rust lol

Ive just got a bolt to fibre glass hood. Im fitting it tomorrow! I'll let you know how I get on!

Good call. Had a Cervini's SVO hood on my '87, and my body man said it was the best-looking finish he'd seen on any fiberglass food he'd seen (and they do a lot of custom work).

As for flying up, I agree with the guys who have sad they most likely weren't latched properly in the first place. As for becoming mis-aligned after time, I'd use thread-locker on the bolts, and adjust the latch properly so all it takes is a firm press to close it. There is absolutely no reason one should have to drop a hood from two or three feet up to get it to latch! And I certainly wouldn't do that with a 'glass one.
