I'm gonna step out on a limb here and say that if the truth were to be really known that the reason most hood pop up and do all that damage is for one simple reason; it was never really checked to make sure it was really latched and secure before the person drove off is my belief.
In my case I close my hood and then I try lifting up on it again to make sure it is secure, versus thinking I closed the hood and later saying that the only reason it popped up was because it was made from fiberglass so can I get another hood and I’ll make sure I pin it this time.
Sure if you want to go 150-200 mph then I agree you need a pinned hood, but for your normal everyday daily driver why screw up a hood with cables and pins unless you think it a bling thing.
