Fox Fill In Recessed Mustang Letters

Hey guys. New to the forum but had a question. I was recently in a fender bender and plan to repainting my car and do some exterior things, new fenders, grille insert, etc.

So I was wondering if anyone has done anything with the recessed mustang letters in the front and rear bumpers? I've searched but couldn't find anything. Anywhere!! But I'm looking for a nice debadged clean look, and think it would be cool to fill in those recessed letters. Fiberglass over them or something. What do you guys think?

Maybe some sort of flexible Epoxy would work to fill in those sections then a skim coat of body filler on top, not sure if fiberglass would work.

If you buy repro bumpers, they usually don't have the lettering due to trademarks

Yeah. I was not really thinking fiberglass, more of a bondo hair or something like that. And a bit of body filler on top. Looks like were on the same page! Wondering how you guys think it would look too. Quick responses btw.

You'd be surprised. On my pickup truck I have only one badge on the pass fender, didn't even notice when I bought it, but I've had 3 people notice the badges, so I guarantee if I have a fox enthusiast looking at it they will notice.

Regardless I'll probably do it anyway. It's the little things that make a project yours.

I have a aftermarket rear on my GT very few have ever noticed, well at least said anything to me about it.

Not sure I would try globbing body putty that thick in there as its most likely gonna fall out and then ruin the paint on top, I would honestly look into something like a flexible epoxy like I mentioned earlier, then you can just skim coat it with filler to take away any minor imperfections. Repop bumpers like Mike mentioned is a good choice too as you wont have to mess with filling any recesses.

Don't use any kind of standard body filler on any urethane parts. I filled in my letters years ago when I didn't know any better. The filler completely separated from the urethane. Looked like hell. Urethane filler will probably work okay though. It's just harder to sand smooth and blend.

Was the look worth it in your opinion if done right?

buy an after market one, ...not worth it to me, i like the letters.

I did the mustang gt on my side skirts. Used urethane bumper repair that self mixes using a caulk gun, just fill it in high and sand it flush. Watch how much primer you use or you will get spider cracks from it flexing.

I agree, I don't think it's so much that they won't notice as much as it's so common for people to "customize" these cars. Personally I wouldn't say "Look at that you filled em in!". If I saw it I would just assume you bought the aftermarkets that don't have the letters. Not worth the trouble in my opinion.

Yeah I think it'd make me think , " hmm look at that" if I saw a painted set of letters in contrasting colors; say white letters on a red car or orange on a black.
