Fill me in on underdrive pullies

It just popped in my head to get some Steeda Underdrive pullies because they are for sale for $160. Is it worth it to do the pullies on a 97 GT? Where about in the RPM range can I expect the power increase? PI intake is next on the list, but pullies are first need something cheap. Oh and Ive heard of heating issues on these cars with the pullies and charging problems, can anyone verify this??

I just recently put pullies on my car and haven't noticed any issues. My lights may dim a little but it is hardly noticable. I did notice a little difference on the SOTP meter, but nothing real major. Where did you find the Steeda pullies from? I got mine for something like $140 with free shipping. Look around a little bit, $160 seems a bit high.

I haven't noticed anything about over heating, but in some instances it can discharge the battery at an idle (volts fall below 12.46). I know with my old 5.0, it would heat up a little bit, but I haven't noticed it with my 4.6 (I think because of the electric fan). My voltage does drop with lights on (sometimes even off), radio on, A/C on, and sitting at a stop light or in stop/go traffic.

I have had Steeda pulleys on mine for few months and have had 0 problems. Been caught in stop and go traffic in Wilmington for over an hour is 90+ degree heat with the temp guage not going over half way :nice: In my old 5.0 I would have had the heat on and been keeping the revs up to like 2500 plus to keep the car cool :rlaugh: . Trust me its hard to do in an auto :notnice:
I love them on my 4.6 though. I dont have exact #'s since I had a dyno with the chip and custom burn, but I did notice some sotp increase above 3000 rpm once the pulleys were in. All in all for the money I say go for them. As long as they are installed correctly you will have 0 problems.
There are several threads on this topic, just search this forum if you have any more questions about pulleys :nice:

I have a 97 with the March Piggys and have no problems with heat or electronics.
You will feel a little more torque ans it will rev better into the mids. I would buy the new March single piece units. I think they are like 139.00 Jegs or Summit?
Do the J mod tccoa.com and get an O/R X or H for a little more if you really want ot make a change. I know you are getting better shifts with the chip but it is not the best for longevity. We 96-98 ers Also had bad Accumulator pistons which wear our trannys out early. Something to consider looking into. Read the transmission 101 article on the tccoa.com site and set up your tranny right.
