i bought this clutch from jegs
it was supposed to be this one 397-M-7550-T302....found here, the second one down. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_763394_-1_10669

but it came in a centerforce box, and looks like a dual friction clutch. i dont know if makes a huge difference, but i used it with my KC pressure plate.

the trans is back in and pretty much the only thing left to do is put the exhaust back on.

geez.... I was told that your only suppose to use the Centerforce clutch disc with the Centerforce pressure plate....because they have a different design... but i guess you'll find out

i think the only difference in design is the weights on the fingers which give it the ultra soft pedal. as far as i know, the rest works the same and as long as it's matching in size, i don't see why it wouldn't work. but yeah, we should find out soon enough!

I'm also interested in how your transmission does. I'm thinking about picking up one soon.

well it seemed to fit together ok. and the clutch releases when the pedal is depressed, the only problem i had was getting the clutch centered. jegs didnt supply me with an alignment tool. so i took the input shaft out of trans to line it up. the first time didnt go so well, neither did the second or third try and now i have a couple gashes down my arm where the trans fell on it. LOL. but its in now and everything looks good. ill get some pictures tonight.

Alignment tool is like 5 bucks at the auto store man. save yourself the battle wounds next time. Or have someone sit in the car with the cable hooked up and gently push it back and forth to get it to line up easily.

im about to sell this dam car.

after it was all together and ready to go i put the car in 1st and pressed the clutch and it doesnt dis-engage..... ok try and adjust the clutch cable. got it tight with a little slack and the same thing happens. i tried it in every gear and it wont disengage.
so i go to pull the trans back off, and i WONT come apart. all the bolts are out and it wont come apart. we had 3 guys yankin on it and wigglin and had 3 prybars in it and it wont come off.
so next weekend im gonna pull the motor and see what the F-in problem is.

does anybody nkow if the astroperformance t-5 uses a different pilot bearing? because thats the only thing i can think is wrong.

well i cant get the trans to seperate from the motor, so the whole thing is gettin pulled tonight. this car should have been on the road 2 weeks ago it pisses me off how a simple trans swap turned into this huge bull **** ordeal.

maybe somehow the clutch disc is binding on the input shaft? i know when i did my t5 conversion we had a hell of a time getting the trans in, and seemed to do better when the clutch was disengaged, kinda seemed like the alignment tool was a bit loose. maybe try a crowbar on the fork to see if that will disengage and let it slide out?

btw, with my adjustable cable (steeda) i have zero slack, i tightened mine almost as far as it would go to actually get it to disengage.

man that sucks to hear about your troubles. i'd figure astro t5's use the same pilot bearing. aside from getting it to line up, was anything out of the norm when you finally did get it to stab all the way?

well i got the motor out. and it took 2 crowbars and a mini sledge to get the trans to seperate from the engine, and you wont guess what the problem was. pics pretty much explain it.

(yes thats me)

now i tried the other input bearing retainer and it fit a lot better, excpet it still has the same problem. im thinking there something up with the clutch. im almost considering puttin like 3 washers behind each of the 4 bolts that hold the trans to the bellhousing. or ill just call jegs up and tell em to send the right clutch.... bastards.

dunno what to say.. I do know the centerforce pressure plate is desighned a lot different then that.. so that may be the problem.. It seems to sit more shalow then the fms part.
Wtf is that pipe stcking out of your pressure plate.? You might of jazzed something up..I would get the right disk and then spend the extra 6 on the tool..

"that pipe" is part of the input bearing retainer, it pulled apart when yanking on the trans and that piece was seized to the clutch.

the centerforce pressure plate wouldnt make any difference at all, the only thing that would, would be spacing the trans from the bellhousing or grinding some of the input bearing retainer or grinding some of the clutch

are you sure you dont have that disc backwards? it looks like the side the bearing retainer tube is sticking out of is spaced out from the disc, when that side should really be in the recess of the flywheel? dunno for sure as im a little f'ed up right now, but it looks that way from a glance......
