Ok, I'm going to explain this once....Obviously the alignment was spot on b/c he did manage to lodge the bearing retainer directly through the center of both the pressure plate and clutch disc....Alignment problem? I don't think so......Wrong size bearing retainer.....now that sounds a little better. Hmmmm...must be too long. If something doesn't fit.... don't force it....This is probably right up there with that guy that smeared grease all over the underside of his car.

i have a couple extra t5 bells sitting in my garage. if nobody measures one for you by the time i get off work tonight at 9 central time, i'll do it for you.

*EDIT* i just re-read your post. your INPUT SHAFT is 3/4" longer? sounds like you have an astro t5 set up for an sn95 then. when you kept saying tremec, i thought you meant like a tko or something, not the tremec t5. the bells for both the tremec t5 and borg warner t5 are going to be the same. i had the same problem when i was trying to put in a tremec t5 into my old coupe. it wouldn't go in the last 3/8" no matter what i did. OMG, talk about going CRAZY underneath a car! i was sooooo pissed off and confused. come to find later that it was for an sn95 so i had to change the input shaft and retainer sleeve. fit perfect after that.

how much did you pay for the input shaft?

well it turns out after i sent tony my input shaft, that the gearset in my trans isnt one of there "A-5" gearsets, its a G-force gearset. which isnt bad at all, but he couldnt trade me input shafts. so i ended up buying a new (shorter) G-force input shaft and a new input bearing. they will be arriving seperatley and ill have to press the bearing onto the input shaft and fiddle with some shims in the input retainer to get the proper end play.

anyway this whole thing was a mess and ill be so happy once i get this trans and motor back in the car.

nice, glad to see everythings been figured out. good luck with the next install! oh and about how much end play do you think is right? when i got my tranny back from the shop, for some weird reason, they decided to put the JACKED up aluminum retainer sleeve on it instead of the steel one i gave them. so i had to change it myself. he used 2 shims behind the race in the aluminum one and i just put both of the shims along with the race in the steel one and put it on. it's got some end play, i'm not sure what's considered a lot or not enough or what though.
