So I'm going to be in the market for a S351 in about a month, and I was wondering, what is the best way to find these rare cars. The first thing I plan on doing, is sending in a request to Mark at PAS, I've been browsing and have seen many nice cars there. Other then PAS and ebay, where did you guys stumble across your cars.

Also when it comes to finding out if the cars on ebay are legit or not, I hear about the Saleen registry(couldn't find a list online), or I could call them direct. I rather not go threw ebay, but I realize many cars have been on there. I do check the mustang forums, like Corral, Stangnet, and SVTPerformance.

Anyways I know I can use the search function, but I didn't see too many post that would answer these. Ill be keeping an eye out for a Pre 97 White S351 coupe

Sometimes they crop up in national classifieds like Mustang Trader or even the Dupont Registry, but usually these people want big money for what they have. Sometimes there are great deals, though.

You can buy a copy of the Saleen Book, I think Saleen still sells it. This has a complete registry in the back that would include all the 351s. Or, just call Saleen directly to establish authenticity of the car you are looking at.

Good luck with the search!

Sorry Jason, I couldn't resist!! Anytime I can post a picture of one of my cars (current or sold), I'll take the oppurtunity
There are many different ways to find cars, PAS or Ebay are the easiest. The monthly magazine Mustang and Ford Trader works well, Autotrader on-line takes a while to search thru but is another great place to look. When the time get's closer, remind us and we can all keep our eyes open for you

Yea Robert, that car is amazing, Hopefully come this summer, I can find myself a car just like that. Not sure how insurance will be if I can have it as a collector car being im only 21.

Also I ordered that book from PAS, thanks for the link. Looks to be a good read.

Good luck with the search. When you do find one, the thing with the insurance is the car's VIN will come up as either a GT or a V-6 so you need to make sure you get the right coverage to get the actually value or cost of an S351 should it be a total loss. True with all Saleen's I guess; just throwing that out there.

Yes, sad but true, the E car is gone. I sold it to a neighbor of Larry's. I got the car running right and felt comfortable selling it to someone. The deciding factor was my wife just got a new part-time job and I have to take my daughter to the sitter in the morning, and a convertible car seat wasn't going to fit in the back of the Saleen. I can't afford a second car right now so the saleen had to go. An 07 outlander replaced it (about as far away from a Saleen as you can go), and I'm actually enjoying it. But I'm not done with Saleens. There is an S351R in my future for sure.

Robert, there seems to be a twin to your 95 on ebay right now. The guys description of the car is the reason no one has bought it. He doesn't seem to know anything about the car even though he claims to be the original owner.

That car was on ebay about a week and a half ago, only 3 bidders and went up to 18k, wish the pictures were better, little too many miles for my liking.

I do not know how many miles are on the car - but that should not dictate ANYTHING as much as condition should! I looked at 7 S351's all with 25,000 miles or less and bought mine with 56,000 miles. Honestly - it was 10 times the condition of some of the S351's with 20,000 miles and consdierably better than ALL the rest and I still paid about the same price as the ones with less than half the miles. Over 20 1st place trophies for mine, and I just got a second place for original / unrestored last week in which a deservingly 1969 Mustang Mach 1 got 1st place with only 15 original miles on it - a brand new 1969 car that will NEVER EVER be driven. There were 37 cars in this class from 1928 to 2003.

On that note, there are some very nice low mile S351's out there, but from experience on S351's - you are best to look at the one you want in person and actually go over it with a fine tooth comb, rather than count on a low mile car over the internet without seeing it. You must here it run and drive it - otherwise you could be looking for a lot of trouble, as this car is not just a regular bulletproof Mustang. It's engine can be a ticking timebomb if it was not addressed properly from new and they sit LOW and are easy to ding and damage undercarriage as well as ground effect pieces. LOTS of OBSOLETE PIECES!

....per The Saleen Book: It's legit!
95-0097 last three_vin:576_P42 chasis_ ship date 07/28/95
only owner listed is Michael Miller in North Carolina
comments: 3.27 gears
That is the correct hood for the early cars as the lightweight composite heat extracting hood was an option until it came standard in 1997. It makes no mention in the book about the supercharger or the sr double stack wing being stock. I'm sure those were added after the fact. Looks to be a very clean low mileage car but pictures can make a car look a lot better then it actually is. If your serious about picking it up, find some one you trust that lives close by to check it out and drive it or fly there yourself......if you do end up buying the car, make sure you get it on the dyno BEFORE you do anything above 2500 rpm's!!! Let us know how it goes.....

....Just looked closer at the dealer installed options sticker and it looks like they added the sr wing and installed 3.55 gears!! Just in case you didn't notice, I didn't at first glance...

Yea, I sent him an email, hoping to get his number and give him a call. The car looks very clean, I don't know anyone down there, so I'll have to fly down to check it out. Ill see what he says on the phone about it, the ebay add mentions trickflow heads, 42lb injectors, so it seems to be modded, but still low miles. Ill ask if he upgraded the fuel system, and if it was tuned also. He also mentions it 1 of 2 as per saleen with paperwork, so Ill see what he means by that.

Yea, looking at the price on sticker at 51,475, maybe the supercharger was already on from Saleen?

I would stick with a Naturally Aspirated S351 car unless the internals have been forged on a rebuild being it is supercharged. Supercharged cars 96 - 98 are the ones to find if you want an R - Code as they came with forged internals. Just my thoughts, thats all.

Well got a email, seem's Mike still owns it, so thats good to know. He added the vortech, says its a t-trim, all parts ordered threw Saleen. Runs a Pro shop and did all the work himself. So its just a 351, no R-code. Still looks clean and I'm still considering it. Hope he can get me some more pictures. Not sure If I want to get a real r-code, and something more stock. We will see
