finish my notch, or pick up this MINT '02 SS?

As some of you know, I'm rebuilding the motor in my notch (306) and adding a few other goodies (Cam), and I'll paint the motor bay to match the car color (Black). The paint on the car is fresh and I have replaced everything from the rear to the tranny to the interior. Its almost how I want it, but theres so much more I want to do, plus I kinda want somehting new.
I ran into my neighbors friend in a deli tonite, and I have always loved his car. its a bone stock '02 Camaro SS, Black on Black leather with T-tops. Its got a 6 speed and the SLP package (AKA is quick). the car has like 30K miles on, it. It's in MINT condition, the seats don't even have creases in the leather, the car looks brand new. The car is garaged and pampered too.
Now, here's what got me even considering it. For me, since I know him, he only wants $14k. What do you guys think? Should I try to get this car? Or am I overreacting for a nice newer car? The main thing I would worry about is the insurance. I pay around $177 a month (ends up like $16-1800 a year), the the Co. thinks its a 4 cylinder. How much you think it would spike if I got this car? I have only been driving for a yr. and a half, with a clean record.

I happen to really like the LS1 SS (actually the only non-1st Gen F-bod I like), so I won't tell you not to get it. As long as you can really afford it. I couldn't guess what the insurance would be.

Thats a good deal on the SS... and they are fast cars. If you really want it and can afford it, grab that car up!

WOW not the response I expected from the Mustang crowd! I'm going to talk to my pops about insurance and try to get a price on that, then maybe I'll look into saving up for this car.

lol... mustangs will alway be mustangs.. ls or lt1's are nice and a lil faster... if you wanna cross over to the other side go for it.. but once you cross over dont look back cuz we wont help you... lol j/k is that what you wanted to hear?

If you ACTUALLY can afford the SS.. go for it... but 14k is a lot of money and im guessing you are 17-18... so, be real with yourself and don't trick your mind into *thinking* you can afford it. (I especially say this because your sig has a the word cheap in your search for a short block.. which imo are cheap to begin with.. soo.. tends to make me think you might not have all that money sitting around.)

I'm not going to tell you if you should buy the car or not. But your young and insurance is going to kick your ass on that car. I'd say finish the mustang first or it'll never get done. Mainly cause after you buy the SS you won't have any money, and any money you do have you'll want to mod the SS keep it simple only have one car that goes fast. If you want a new/newer car buy a DD that you can drive not that the SS couldn't be a DD but if it's only got 30k miles you won't want it to be a DD i don't think. I think your just trying to justify buying this car just to have it.

ls1 cars are sick, and I'd love to have one. But, being 19, insurance is just plain stupid for me. When I was 18, with a clean record and school discounts, a 93-97 lt1 was gonna be $4k for 6 months. I didn't even bother checking for an ls1. So just make sure you find out how much you'd be paying before you're stuck with the car and can't afford insurance.

Just so you know the SLP option doesnt make the car that much "faster" then a reg. ls1.....maybe a tad bit, but with the exhaust and intake upgrades its not much....but that is a good deal for a car with that low of miles, if it was me id jump on it in a hurry, heck you could resell the car for 17k+ i bet

The insurance is gonna kill you if you are payin $177/ month now with them thinking its a 4 banger!!!!!!!

On the other hand, if you can afford it and you want it....get it. They are no joke. But imagine your Mustang with $14,000 in it. The LS1 is gonna run you probably at least $300/ month and another $50-75/ month more on your insurance. Imagine that money put in your Mustang.

SLP was a factory option? thats like saying the Bullitt or Cobra arent stock (if untouched) Mustangs. (needless to say there not stock GTs... they're stock in their own respects.)

But yea, the coupe would go (part out probably) then use that money, borrow some from my parents, thne buy the car. I pay insurance once a year ( I work summers so i pay my parents the year's insurance in August, they make the monthly payments.)

If there is one car that I would get rid of the mustang for it is a 98-02 FBody. They are badass cars and now days can be picked up for very cheap. Not to mention that the mods for them are much cheaper than 4 or 5 years ago. I remmeber when I set of Longtubes for an Fbody was 1200, now they can be gotten for 400 or 500 dollars. I mean a V8 that with a lid, longtubes, cutout, and a cam that makes 400 hp and still gets 25 MPG on the freeway. That is the epitome of amazing in my book.
