Looks really good man! I want to do the same thing with mine...I can't stand the stock mats that go in the back. What did you use...dense particle board? Looks like it was a lot of work but the finished product is really nice!

Those both look really great.

Darn you both for making me want to tackle my trunk when I have other projects I need to get done!

thanks. and actually i used plywood. as for the vertical pieces covering the 1/4 panels, i used some angle aluminum and screwed it down. it moves a lil if you hit it, but its all secure.

Hey Mine's been carpeted for a little while now. Originally it accomodated dual Optima batterys behind each wheel well and as such they were closed in. Since then it has taken a more drag race function, and the stereo and batteries have been replaced as such....

Simple job with some plywood and cheap carpet. Really improved the trunk of the 70. I still fit my entire tool case between the two, and there is room between the backseat to fit a jack if I feel the need.

i first made a template out of paper, it was easier to mess around with, and then i transfered the template to carpet and it worked pretty well.

MDF would be a good strong material to work with but heavier than particle board which is heavier than plywood. I used fiberboard when I did mine, it is not as rigid or strong but a small fraction of the weight.

Here's a write-up on how I did mine:
